The other 4 are logical cores. That's what Hyper Threading gets you. Every core can theoretically work on two tasks at once as if it's a double core. Probably has something to do with using the 5th dimension and some dark matter particles, hell if I know.

Hyperthreading means it works on two threads bit by bit (10ms of core time to one thread and then the next 10ms to the next for example) so technically not at the same time (although some trickery is used to determine which threads are executed at which times )..... no magic at all

I like my theory better, thank you very much. 5th dimension and dark matter particles are the future.

Probably has something to do with using the 5th dimension and some dark matter particles, hell if I know. It's about efficiency, When a core is working on a thread there are often points in time that it has to fetch data to work on - which takes time. Rather than sitting idle whilst it fetches the data, it can start work on another thread. I believe it makes the core around 30% more efficient on average in many threaded environments, so it's definitely not as good as having extra physical cores, but it's still pretty good.

You've come to the right place. WDG has some obsession about certain dark storage places for some often not quite so dark matter.

About 5 weeks to wait now. I suppose I'd better get some overtime in to pay for the hard drive and the RAM
