The poor postman couldn't get it through the letterbox. So after I caught him, he gave me my goodies from his sack (ok, way too much inuendo).

But the long short & skinny is BT have made good on their delivery.

Here's what's in the bag...

Now, I've been periodicaly testing my speeds with "Think Broadband". So it should be possable to see if this thing makes any improvments. I'm not sure why BT recon that it should take 48 hors for an improovment to manifest itself. How many of you go to the garage and after paying the mechanic he tells you it will take two days for you to see in improvment? I wish i could get away with that with my customers. "There you go, your till is still buggered. But it will get better in 48 hours".

Lets see if this works Cheesy

Surely with the way it would (or should) work the effect would be immediate? Sounds like placebo to me.

They check your stability at certain speeds regulary, if there's an improvement it will appear on your line when they next test. Ring them up and get them to reset it.

Have heard these things aren't much use if your house and therefore tele line is less than 5 years old.

ADSL MAX speeds are dependant on a number of factors, and because of this, the line has to 'learn' its limits, i.e. how fast it can go but still be stable.

Any ADSL Max (8mbps+) package has to do this....

I'll be running the two speed testers. The one recomended by BT, and the other by Think Broadband. The Think site has been tracking my speeds for quite a few months, so it should be interesting to see the difference in performance. There is a notacable drop in speeds for me, but then again, it is the schools summer holidays. So more users at home and online than normal maybe.

Initaly I wasn't impressed. A test befor the accelorater gave a speed of 5.5. After fitting ten minuets later I got 4.1. I'm supressing the rising red mist at the moment. But unless things improve then BT will be feeling my negative waves.

[This doesn't bode well. I'm on a late shift again till 9pm. Got in last night at quater past 11. Tonight is another clear down and the store doesn't close till 10pm. Time for red bull me thinks]

Testing broadband speed can be very subjective - the problem is that all tests use data transfer out on the network and performance can vary.

Your test will only be conclusive if you revert to the other BT connector and see if your connection improves suddenly?

Yeah - that's a good point on the 48 hours thingy.

Your ISP automatically adjusts the <INSERT NAME OF MAGIC THINGS HERE> depending on the <INSERT NAME OF THINGS THAT MAKE YOUR SIGNAL CRAP> and it takes time for that adjustment to take place.

That's why with people like Be you can actually adjust the <INSERT NAME OF MAGIC THINGS HERE> that it's using. So you can optimise your connection for Speed (perhaps increasing latency) or for Latency (reducing speed) or for Reliability (a mix of the two) - and I think these are all determined by the ISP.

Tell bt your using it for gaming too, I rung sky and the bloke adjusted my connection, my ping dropped from 80-90 to around 25. Bt might do the same.

I know that BT have a automatic feature where the network tries different settings to determine optimum speed. It could be that which will cause the "delay" whilst you wait for improvements. Still, seems odd since the purpose of this contraption is to reduce interference in your home connection!!!!

I had this when they upgraded my broadband connection from 2 to 8 megabits ... and had to call support alot to get a stable connection! lol

Correct, but your profile can 'get stuck' and keep you at a lower speed.  Good luck attempting to talk BT into resetting your bras/ip profile Wink

Also BT will always try to rule out your internal wiring first.
Connecting your router directly into master socket is a must.

With BT I find it alot easier to just simply E-mail their support centre off the WEB site. Cram it full of details. Get in the special phrases of "Repower", "Plugged directly into the master face" and the other bastard phrases of theirs. You may get a phone call where you just end up reading your E-mail back to them and then BT will pretend that there is nothing wrong with their service and it must be something you have done. But as if by majic, in a couple of days you'll find an improovment. Funny how that happens Smiley

Your best bet is actually just to check the line stats on your router, You're looking for the current Sync speed, SNR margin and line Attenuation.

Plug them into here and it'll give you a good idea of your line capabilities.
http://212.23.23.177/ADSL/default.aspx

The higher your SNR, the more stable your line will be, anything over 6dB is ok.
