It's late and I was dicking around with some of my scripts and found my old auto-pistol that I used to use (I stopped using it because it felt like cheating) and put together a nice little number from the remains. Now that the pistol fires at a uniform speed with the fire button held down this script lets you hold down the button you want it assigned to, flip to your pistol/shotty/flaregun and keep firing until you let go of the assigned button. It'll even flick back to your last used weapon for you when you let go of the button. Can't figure out a way of getting it to reload, but with the new auto reload thingy I don't think I'll bother with it!

Copy this

alias +quickpistol "slot2;+attack"
alias -quickpistol "-attack; lastinv"

into your alias.cfg file

then add this
bind "MOUSE2" "+quickpistol"

to your scout.cfg. If you want to change the button to trigger this, just change the MOUSE2 to whatever you want, and obviously if you want to set it up for solly/pyro change scout.cfg for *classname*.cfg.

I've tested it with the solly and pyro too (works great with flares!) and I guess technically it could work for heavy/sniper but I haven't tested it out. Also, for all you melee fans out there, if you change the slot2 to slot3 you can do the same thing but with your spade/bat/fists, I know this will apeal to certain elements of the comunity Wink.

Hmm, but can this be used so that I can easily switch from my primary weapon (Spade) to one of my secondary, less effective weapons, like the rocket launcher?

That would be very useful in the few situations that the spade cannot be used (Maggots keep running away, maggots keep airblasting me away, etc etc)

To be honest, you can probably do it just as quick using the number keys, but as I play on that Belkin thingy I don't have easy access to the number keys. This just makes things a bit easier.

The only way Valve could prevent it if they wanted (I think) to would be to complete disallow console access. This is far too useful a tool to remove and would potentially cripple administration of servers (among other things). That people use scripts does not mean that Valve sanctions the practice.

Some scripts are very annoying and worthy of kicks such as stab/sap that works on level3 sgs....

But how can you ban people for using them.

Valve (and any other developer of game that allows them) code them in specifically to be used, and the built in cheat systems wont ban for you using them...

Why ban people for simply making full use of the features made available.

The console commands are useful for non 'script' actions such as rebinding keys for a class- I have my sniper's zoom bound to a thumb button after I got so used to it with the hunting rifle in L4D. I haven't really got an issue with scripts as long as they don't do things faster/better than a non-lazy human could, such as the given stab and sap example. I don't use them myself, however.
