wow ... never thought this is true... but the german word "Gesundheit" is being translated 1:1 into the english word "Gesundheit"  ? what the hack - anybody knows what the mystery is about ? |

Just a loan word, you have several from English, we take quite a lot from the French.  Most English people though would say "Bless you" instead of "Gesundheit" though in the case of someone sneezing. |

it feels so weird to me, because Gesundheit is a typical german word and i would have bet a lot of money against the fact that it is used 1:1 in the english speaking world ... things like "kindergarten" were teached in school ... but i never heard of Gesundheit .... (fortunately i play tf2  ) |

If you haven't seen it, you might want to look up the film "The Taking of Pelham One Two Three". The 1974 original version mind rather than the recent remake. The use of the word "gesundheit" by one of the characters proves crucial in the dénouement. Dénouement, of course, being another loan word, this time from French to English.  |
