DID NO ONE PLAY THE ORIGINAL SERIOUSLY

Here's what it'll be, especially considering they've now announced it's a straight up remake with modern tech:

- It's a MMOFPS; 3 factions, each with variations on a core army structure, fighting over a world called Auraxis
- It's not just bigger maps, it's one big map, with no instancing (or at least very little; the original had around 12 'areas', but most of them would be solidly held by a side, making them secure unless another faction gains a staging area in an active adjacent area, meaning there were usually only a few areas that it was worth fighting in).
- The rough goal at any given time is capturing complexes held by the other factions. This means fighting your way through an outer wall, disabling the inner defences, and finally reaching the top of the central tower and hacking the central terminal for a few minutes (or in my regular squad's case, crash landing 2 transports into the roof of the tower to take out any last ditch guards and hacking the tower before anyone below realises what's going on).
- Captured bases spawn lighter vehicles such as light tanks, jeeps, and maybe a couple of smaller flyers. For the heavy hardware, you'll need to head back to your side's main base and grab it from there, and fly/drive it to the hotzones. Apparently they're tweaking this for the sequel so you get into action sooner, but the heavy vehicles can easily swing a battle, so I'm hoping they balance this well.
- As anyone reading the RPS coverage will know, it's a great source of war stories.
- I reckon it'll probably be free to play, with a sub required to play as a higher ranking soldier in command of squads and factions.

It's a far cry from World of Warcraft and its fantasy brethren; my best description of it would be a Battlefield game, but on a much bigger scale and with a persistent world. If it does turn out to be F2P I'm going to have to drag you on at some point

Hmm, I doubt it. It'll definitely F2P stuff in it (look at what SOE is doing at the moment) but I think subscription will be either for all or nobody.

And hundreds of players fighting for bases. And a huge game terrain. And vehicles and flight machines. And hacking and stealth. And I don't know what else. In short, nothing like it. And yeah, don't worry about the MMO aspect. It basically means, there is a lot of everything. No killing 6 brown boars, then killing 6 black boars.
