Hey peeps,

I've run threads before on sound cards etc.., blah, blah, but not got around to a resolution. Well, my Cambridge Soundworks high end system died. And my soundcard was making dodgy sounds on my headphones. So... I did the unthinkable.

I bought the Bose digital theatre system for desktops.

Fuck me, it's fantastic.

No, it's fucking remarkable. Everyone says you pay OTT for Bose. You don't.

Fuck off Creative, division 2. Sorry Chaos, I know I'm wrong but...

I only ever listened to 1 Bose system before and the sound quality was spectacular for such a small device, so I can only imagine what ur getting from ur system Phil, but I'm happy for u and just a little jealous Wink

sound is personal taste, I like studio stuff, you like theatre style stuff Smiley
Your never gonna get me to swap my genelecs for your bose speakers, but that said, Im sure you feel vise versa Wink

(just sold a top notch sound card too hehe)
If your looking for new ones, its x-fi if you mainly game, and Asus Xonar if your more into movies (or onboard, but with expensive kit like that, youd be a fool)

Got a picture of the setup?

One thing for me is, my headphones are currently my only sound output - the box which routes the sound further on to the speakers (and splits it to the headphones) annoyingly has one issue, that the front wire is dodgy, so either I can have the speakers (directly plugged into the sound card) or the headphones (plugged into the sound card) but not both now. Playing around with it doesn't help, sigh.

So, might be wanting to get a new set of speakers (probably only 2.1 ones) and headphones (must be 5.1 ones with mic, although depending on how the speakers are setup I might not need to get new ones of these!) and whatnot. Need to know how the stuff works though! Cheesy

Sorry, guys. Ignoring my own thread!!! It's the theatre sound system - £299 with 10% off online at Curry's. I got that as opposed to the standard 2.1 'cos it clearly is different gear and I wanted the best offering from a 2.1 physical setup.

Interestingly, and here's one for comment from Chaos, I haven't physically removed the X-fi and XP is still using the Creative wavetable as opposed to MS software synth to output via Bose USB system. So, is that best of both worlds? I will be taking X-fi out as it happens as I currently have it on my radar as the culprit that is de-stabilising my rig.

I've tried many expensive sound options over the years and I believe this is the best for a gamer/music listener who can't be arsed anymore with 5 or 7.1 speaker clutter.
