God, I don't want to have to deal with all this. Someone tell me whether I should preorder home premium or professional? I'm just going to use it to play games in. Everything else is Ubuntu.
Home Premium. And while we're at it. I take it choosing 64 bit over 32 is the right desission yes?
I think it comes with both and you choose when you want to install. Go with 64-bit if you have a 64 bit processor. *very* slim chance that some drivers might not work if you have some obscure hardware but unlikely. if you want to check - check if there are vista x64 drivers available - chances are they will work with win7 (although not guaranteed?)

Well imma build a new PC for win7 around when it comes out, so I imagine I'll drown in bad driver problems anyway. I just want to jump on the £45 offer whilst I can.

Then go for it. When I get paid I probably will

Following on from Brahams question, but are there two versions of Win7 in that one is 32 bit and the other 64 bit? Or is there a choise in the installation process? I know Currys and PC World are one in the same (WEB pages susspiciously similar) but that set a side, even Tesco and Staples seem to only give the option of either buying Home or Pro. I still can't make my mind up between Pro and Home

I still can't make my mind up between Pro and Home AFAIK the disk will have both versions (32+64). I assume you can decide during the install.

Only the RETAIL version will have 32 and 64 bit edition.
OEM versions will have only one of the two.

Excellent. Thanks for clearing that up. Right I'd better make my mind up wether to go for Pro or Home. Is it worth spending the extra money for the "XP virtual machien" and "Automatic Back up"? I mean, how often will I use them? But then again, is it going to be a heartbreaking when I find that one bit of software that just won't work under Windows 7? Oh choises choises. At least I've got till the 9th of August to deside

Well, Virtual PC is only really going to offer the chance to play older games or run a different O/S (like XP). If you need to do this then maybe the professional version might pay off (particularly if you go for 64 bit Windows 7). There are some compatibility issues with older 32 bit programs when you run a 64 bit O/S.

Oh choises choises. At least I've got till the 9th of August to deside Please note (from the MS website): "The offer runs from July 15th 2009 until August 9th 2009, and there are limited quantaties " In Germany those "limited quantaties" lasted a few hours No idea if we germans are more W7-crazy or if MS UK is offering much larger quantities.

Yeah, Imma pull da triggah just on account of lo lo price. Not like I'm under any obligation to install it once it arrives. Plus they only charge yr account when it despatchezzz.
And I think i'll buy the home premium edition. Double the price just for the possibility of being able to run more software? I mean its not even a guarantee, it still might not work in emulation mode.
