Wow a thread title with two acronims? what a surprise..

Anyways!
Lately I have been looking at what BT have offered me and what they have actually given me with regards to my broadband internet.
The thing is, i have signed up to thier "Unlimited Option 3" which should give me the best speeds and no download limits.

I compared my results with that of a friends (who lives in the flat above me) who is also with BT but on option 1 which is the cheapest option.

Things to know before I go further.
- The line in my area can handle a MAX of 6.5mbs (which is puny, but the telephone rep did inform me of this when I signed up, so expecting more is my own silly fault!)
- I am paying £18.59pm for unlimited option 3 and my friend is paying £7.87pm for option 1

some prelim results.
First tests for speeds (Was on the phone with friend so did it at the same time to soo if I got any priority at the exchange)
at 10am I had 4.5mbs and he had 5mbs! WTF!!!
same results (roughly) at 1pm and at 6pm!

This is bullcrap!

If option 1 didnt have download limits I would be on that straight away!

Some other things to look out for are these (which need to go away fast!)

The BT fair usage  policy also applies to option 3 unlimited. So it is actually limited...

What's strange is that if you pay more for a business user package with supposedly more unlimited  than normal unlimited, you are subject to the same fair usage policy!!

Austrailia is getting a $40 bln top notch fibre to the home network over the next few years. I'm seriously considering trying to emirgrate there once I graduate now (My elder sister has already done so! )

IMO the UK government needs to do the same, put it all under the BBC and give people a High Def iPlayer and freeview reciever box for their TV. They could sell off the freeview wireless frequencies then and make a decent fraction of cash back.

Fuck capitalism, It's not working. ISP's are getting more and more tight fisted with regards to "Fair Use Policies" every year - BT even cap your iPlayer bandwidth to 1Mb so you can't watch the high def stuff.

BT are just about competitive with their broadband, but I'd seriously consider looking at other ADSL providers, especially ones with possibly more ethics and transparency. Be is meant to be a good one, but I've not checked out anything in a few years now.

It's a tenner a month for 16gig unlimited. I have had no problems at all.
