I know what you mean. Everything about the atmosphere; the daytime setting, the music, seems so misplaced compared to what we know. Seems to rob it of so much suspense.

Also notable is the apparent lack of scenery destruction, film grain effects etc. The AI seems to just be the current slapped on to the new setting (note one of the horde attempting to climb a lamppost for no apparent reason). Admittedly the above could be explained by the fact that this is an early build.

That said, other things; the axe, hazmat zombies etc. do seem rather a lot of work for an elaborate prank, so maybe this is real. Would make a nice change from dingy apartment buildings if nothing else.

I dunno, I'm going to stay sceptical for the time being. We know how long it takes Valve to do anything so this doesn't really seem like something they could come up with in less than a year whilst still working on L4D and TF2. Plus, it just looks like some kind of cruddy mod, not very impressed to be honest.

One other point. The projected release date is one day short of a year from when the first game was released. Take from that what you will.

Admittedly L4D was promised "Early 2008", so Valve Time may of course have an effect. Wink

To be fair, we're judging Valve by the anomaly that is TF2 - nothing else they've done has been supported like this, and I doubt L4D sales figures are anywhere near TF2's. I'm not sure I'd pay full price for what looks like a re-skin and a few new zombies, but if it was half price, probably.

It already has it's own Steam forum (http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=611), so it looks like a new game.

I also think L4D probably outsold TF2 due to a much wider marketing campaign. By March L4D had sold 2.5m retail copies (that excludes Steam sales) and they had a 3000% increase in Steam sales during February's half price sale.
