Bit of an update on my OC, I had it stable at 3.4 for about a 2 weeks but accidentally reset the CMOS whilst trying to plug in a USB keyboard the other night, can't remember the values and CBA to re conifgure it, so I'm back down to 3.2.

The 3.4 was pretty stable, 12 horus prime I think and the temps were reasonable (mid 60's under full load, 50ish in game), but I was starting to get lots of random errors (Windows calander setting the date to 1911 and my keyboard not working properly) which I assume were related to the OC so I wasn't going to keep it @ 3.4 for much longer anyway.

As I said above, I wasn't doing it to get any improvement (barely anything noticable from 3.2), just to see if I could do it, and I did .

Nah, not gotten around to overclocking it yet...but my temps at stock speeds are still pretty awesome.

Graphics card temperature hasn't gone above about 42 degrees, and normally sits somewhere between 30 and 40. Considering it used to idle at 50-60 and go up to 82 I'm pretty damned impressed.

CPU sits at about 30 degrees idle, and goes up to a maximum of 50ish when under load.

I might play around with it a bit tonight - see what I can get out of it

Had a go at overclocking mine this evening, got it to 3.9Ghz without much trouble.

Idle temps: 51/51/51/46
Load tempts: 73/74/72/68

Temps are a bit high - so I'm going to play around with the voltages etc. and see if I can get them lower.

Got meself a MEGAHALEM heatsink and some Yate Loons to replace my old tri-cools (and for the MEGAHALEM) as well as a sweet ass-fan controller. Temps under load are currently down 20 degrees (admitedly, they were up 10 or so from normal before thet heatsink change due to an epic dust build up on my old heatsink). Going to go back and push for 3.4hz again, after half an hour of prime I haven't gone over 50 degrees yet so I'm thinking it's going to piss it .

Also, the Loons are epic, they're currently running at 80% and I can't hear them at all; the only fan noise at the moment is from the stupid Antec Bigboy which I couldn't find a replacement for. Would definatly recomend them bad boys, I only got them because they were 2.99 each in an OCUK sale from last week .

Managed to hit 3.6 with the old Q6600 (12 hours stable, max temps were at about 58/59, volts were about 1.3ish) but the motherboard broke (unrelated to the OC ) so got a new Sandy Bridge set up that I've just started farting around with. My OC guide is below.

How to OC Sandy Bridge:

1) Set multi to 45
2) Set vdroop to "Low"
3) Set volts to auto
4) Enjoy 4.5Mhz

Srsly, even Cat could do that! There's even a button on the motherboard that will do that for you if you're too fucking lazy to go into the BIOS.

Volts are a bit high atm, but are well within suggested guidlines and don't really have enough time to play around with them as we have guest's coming over tonight (freeloading bastards). Will have a fiddle tomorrow but I'm currently only pulling 1.24 so I'm sure I can raise the multi a bit more/lower the volts and temps. Currently hitting 55 with new thermal paste so I'd expect that to come down a bit as well. Once I get a feel for what the chip can do I'll make a push for 5Mhz for the lols.

Tom, don't you have to overclock SandyBridge a particular way?

I thought there was a problem with CPU lifespan if you simply change the base multiplier? Read something in Custom PC about it...

If you change the base clock from 100 you can fuck the chips up, but changing the multi is how it is supposed to be done. Although I have read that people have upped it to 102/103 and not had any problems, it's not something that I'm going to be doing.
