I think a team should as least have one medic. While it is possible to win without one chances are against it. A second medic usually doesn't hurt.

But I agree with Final that you can't look at that without watching the whole class layout. Support classes are fine and important, but without classes to actually support often questions the point.

Why does anyone go any class? They want to have fun, not go with predefined "rules" about "how many medics" are needed.

True, but to what sacrifice? If 5 people on your team decide that they want to have their fun in playing sniper and in consequence the whole match turns into a farce then I think the idea of "predefined rules" (e.g. a promoted code of conduct) is by no means absurd.

After all, in an online game you play with other people and any interaction between people sometimes require compromises. Like, perhaps, playing a class other than ones favourite.

Now and then I go medic..
I act as a health dispenser usually more than a ubercharger!
I usually end up dead at about 80% charge..
or I wait too long to pull the uber and die before I get the chance
which is why i dont do it too often..

Same. I usually take my turn unless there's a plethora of medics as opposed to a dearth of said healers. I tend to concentrate on keeping people alive rather than  worrying too much about the uber.

You may think that, but it doesn't mean anyone else has to. I still think it's absurd to try and lay down these kind of things in public matches.

The best thing you can do is point it out since some people don't realise they have no medic (or any other class!) and would happily change. People join and leave the teams frequently.

Face facts medic is boring to the vast majority of first person shooter players.

It's the class most solidly in the 'support' section- I've always said if you're getting a positive kpd you're probably doing it wrong, so players worried about that (as egg said, those wanting to shoot people) aren't going to enjoy it. It's more similar to the engineer- it's not about aim, it's about timing and positioning.

I'll always go medic if there's not one on the team, and I'll generally go medic if there's a team of more than 10 with only 1. It's just a pain when you REALLY want to do something else...

Well, you make think so, or perhaps you don't think so but accept it.
I, however, have no intentions to stop preaching as long as I think that my opinions and suggestions help to increase the overall fun for everybody playing.

I have said it countless times before and won't get tired to repeat it: If that was a kind of sports game one would play with real people on a real playing field one would (have to) behave differently.
Just because this is the bloody internet doesn't mean one is entitled to do as he pleases.
You may not be able to prevent it. But there's no reason to sanction it.

Oh my, how do you play online Teatime? Honestly? You sound utterly insane trying to force people to do things your utterly insane and petty way, especially saying "bloody internet" like people are out to vengefully play classes which don't help you win the game.

If there are no good medic players on a team, and just note your theory on mandatory medics is entirely rubbish, the people who might be forced under your crazy scheme to play medic would have no fun, and nor would the people they are badly healing, dying around or otherwise being useless for.

Unlike what you seem to be suggesting, MOST OF THE TIME PEOPLE DO PLAY MEDIC. It just seems to be you always remember "that damn time no one played one" which is when you get riled up and quit or leave or change teams. It's pretty obvious anyone who think's its an insanely common problem needs to double take.

Or go play on a server which forces class minimums and maximums so you can really play it as a sport. Because, you know, sports have explosions, respawns, dynamically changing fields of play, deathcams and voicechat. Sigh.

Why do I even bother trying to put down a moderate suggestion of it simply not being a problem when someone rants here. Makes me rant about them then.
