Okay I know I posted this in the shout box but I really think it needs a thread because...yeah +1 post count [not really but whatever makes you guys happy]

This guy is telling people to ban people that "farmed" their achievements, well now I am officially going to farm the next achievement set because this is just dumb! It doesn't ruin the game, people playing only to reach the goal of their achievements are ruining the game, it's so annoying to play with scouts/medics/heavies/pyros that only have their mind on doing 1000000 D-Jumps/healing/assists/damage.

Anyone with me on this one or do you think he is a law bringer?

I suppose farming bothers me a bit, simply because it ruins the fun of earning achievements. I don't mind farming the silly ones.

As for the website -fine by me - nobody is forcing server owners to ban farmers, and it's entirely their call what they want to do with their own setups.

I personally don't care if people get achievements by performing repetitive tasks against other consenting players. I don't see how this is cheating myself, as the actions are performed legitimately using the normal game engine and environment (just different human player behaviour). If anything, you're cheating yourself out of a challenge, but nobody else really suffers I think.

I personally don't want to see hacks, bots or dodgy code based unlocks through mods. If people consent to shoot each other in specific ways then that is up to them. The ideal way of doing it though, is not on a busy server when other people have no intention of helping. lol

I don't personally object because some of the achievements are so bizarre and unreal that you'd not stand a normal chance of getting them tbh.

I got my heavy and pyro unlocks on my own - happy to assist others in a pre-planned locked server session that involves ONLY player interaction. We'd never have bots, mods or hacks on WDG server

I want in then. I saw this on the Forums Which Cannot Be Named As and thought it was massivly overkill and totally unnecessary; ubering a scout to get 3 kills is (usually) counterproductive to the game, as is heavies punching people whilst ubered and other stupid achievments that I can't remember at the moment.......as long as you farm your stuff on servers dedicated to the purpose alongside other people doing the same, I say fill your boots. Lord have mercy on the man that wants to do it in game though......*evil eyes*

Personally I don't farm my achievements, I enjoy earning them in normal play. If everyone else wants to though, I couldn't really care less. As Wyndham Lewis said,

I've never found that the achievement sets have been hard to get through normal play though.

I only started playing heavy very recently and had all the unlock items within a couple hours of play as the big guy. The same with pyro, avoided it for ages after the update then started playing it properly, a couple of public sessions and I had all the items. I didn't even look at the achievements before playing, they just seemed to fall into my lap playing normally.

I don't know if other people have other motives for getting the achievements (like some kind of steam kudos) but all I'm really after is the unlocks to try them out. Perhaps the scout set is a bit harder, I haven't tried it since the update for any amount of time, so it's hard to say.

There are stupid ones though like Konspicuous Konsumption (made my blood run cold when I saw heavies sitting in spawn om-nom-nomming) where an achievement server is the only real environment to do it in.

Some don't seem to have actually read  some key bits on the site.
His plugin just takes SteamIDs for people who join Achievement_Scout.

Where I agree that making a plugin is a bit silly, I think crusading against him 'am gunna go farm to show this guy whats-what!' is just petty and stupid. It doesn't and likely want affect you and even if it ever does than you can rest assured that the kind of people who ban all those IDs are not the kinda you'd like to play with.

I'm one of those (rare) people that achievements barely have an affect on. I just don't care, no matter what game it is. I get really confused by all those people (most the world according to some research that I cba to find and cite ) who are so driven by arbitrary goals.

I can see why people would want achievements in TF2 when it gives you st00fs but I find it ridiculous when people who don't (or rarely) play class x go and farm achievements to get the weapons.

Apart from that the weapons are really easy to get through normal play of the game.

Achievements are - for the most part -dumb. Some of them, by design, require you to play in ways not working with or helping your team. Achievements and their implementation are one of the more stupid ideas of Valve.
I remember in BF2 unlocks where related to your global score. Once you reached the next step you could choose which weapon to unlock. That was a much better way since it didn't interfere with regular gameplay (though it might tempted people to play for points rather than the team) and by choosing your unlock you could set your own priorities.

Since I decline this concept I also don't care about the way I get the achievements. The first 3 unlocks I got using a hacked dll. The last one I've gotten with help of a few people here on a closed server using an achievement map. Took about 60-90 minutes. I'd rather spend this time playing the game (though the people were fun).
Actually I fail to see the difference since in all cases I didn't "earn" the achievements.

It was actually Microsoft when they ported the Orange box to the X360
They already dumped in the code to the games so they thought why not put them in the PC version as well?

Incase you dont know, the Xbox live system gives every person a "gamerscore" based on how many achievements they have unlocked and how much each was worth..
Valve hasnt gone this far, but its only a matter of time.. seems lots of new games are getting achievements on steam

Why would you install this mod, and then run it with achievement maps? The only reason i can think of is to catch people that 'farm' for them. Which just goes to show what utter wankers these people are.
