Never fooled myself into thinking my spoken english was very good, but I always thought my accent would be rather a mix of english, american with some unavoidable german. I guess it's most obvious when I fishing for words.

And while we're at that: Feel free to correct my more grave mistakes on spoken or written form.
I guess my english is okay, but I can't improve upon it without having my mistakes pointed out to me.

Also I admit that sometimes I have trouble understanding what you talk on the server, especially when it's a lot of people overlapping each other. So forgive me when I sometimes don't react when spoken to.

Most of the time you actually spell better than some of the natives, and your grammar is also somewhat better than some

No, it was actually a few days ago that I entered the server with an alias and I think it was John who asked "Is that you, Teatime" and when I confirmed he said "I thought I recognized the german accent".
And while I'm well aware that I will not be mistaken for a native speaker I didn't know that it is *that* obvious

I don't mind it. We do stereotype germans but the only two I know are solid chaps that let me kill them so who's to moan?

my entire family of previous generations speak perfect german!
we migrated here in the 1800s and the language has been passed down.. but I have been neglected which sucks!
Id love to know german, but I am now too lazy to learn (I fear I a becoming a grumpy old man at such a young age!)

Never met a german yet who can't speak excellent English, and Chaos is right - the standard of verbal / written communication is excellent also. Just come to England to see how well you fare compared to the locals!!!

I torture your mother tongue as much as I can (just ask Mosh and R007). Most Germans smile at me as I try to speak German, then politely ask if I'd rather be speaking English!

So - nothing to be embarassed about at all mate.... and its good to have the Germans and the Danish with us! Strange how we don't attract the French though (LOL)

I used to work on the Channel Tunnel on the HGV Shuttle and I met a lot of lorry drivers of many nationalities

I general the Dutch are the nicest lorry drivers in Europe, closely followed by the Scandinavians & Belgians, they are relaxed, speak good English and are generally pleasant.  Germans tend to do the "not as good as Germany" thing but are otherwise pleasant and speak English.  Eastern Europeans tend to keep to themselves, probably due to the language barrier.
The Italians tend to speak no English but have a great sense of humour
The French are usually relaxed but tend not to speak English
The English are in general moany gits but with a sense of humour, so are the Scottish but with extra moan.  Didn't actually get many Welsh onboard.
The Spainish & Portugese are noisy, refuse to speak English and smell bad in summer.
Without question though the nationality that was dislike the most by every member of staff (not just the English), suprisingly was the Irish, they were just so awkward and complained about everything.

That is my findings about European Lorry drivers.  Incidentally the only women lorry drivers I encountered were British.

Oh and a special mention must go to the UPS guys, nicest drivers in the world.

Edit:  Back on topic, I don't mind accents at all, there are so many in the UK anyway, it's nice to have lots of variety and it's quite a complement for someone who's first language is not English to make the effort.
