The stuff's here (excluding the hard drive), motherboard box is very posh. The fan is bloody massive and I have doubts about it fitting in my case.
Can't fit it tonight though as Mrs Bystander has found a babysitter and we are going out for a meal and movie, off to see Star Trek.
May wait till the hard drive arrives on Friday and do a clean installation.

With all that geekiness Mrs Bystander may well want to do the PC upgrade instead

Gave into temptation and installed the motherboard and processor. Fan is the size of a small tower block and the processor is sited underneath the PSU (which does not bode well for overclocking). Installed stock intel fan and got the system working. Can't be arsed to do anymore tonight. I think I need a new case

Most PSUs are setup to extract air, not intake it so you should be ok heat wise on the CPU

The Coolermaster RC-1100 V2 Cosmos S (as recommended by Chaos) is a huge case. I even use mine to store food when the fridge is full!

on a side note, I fucking hate that horrible push pin retention system of intels. Building a pc for a mate atm with an "arctic freezer 7 pro" and it was an utter pain to get fitted right.

LOL! You thought that was hard! Try fitting the AC Freezer Xtreme! Thats a bastard and a half. I'll need to remove the mobo if I ever replace it as half the pins snapped and the only way thats coming back off is to have the board out and push them back through from the reverse side! I wish CPC did their cooler review before I bought it!
