O great and wise Guru Chaos I request your infinite knowlege of stuff.
lol
Just got up (nearly 1pm ha)
Right well the difference between AMD and Intel isnt as big as most people think... its like the difference between nVidia and ATI...
yes nVidias cores are slightly more powerful but theyr also a lot more expensive!
A C2D will beat an AMDx2 clock for clock, but you can get a 3.0Ghz AMD cheaper and the difference isnt that great unless your going to overclock... the Intel chips OC so much better than AMD..
so if overclocking isnt your thing, why go for Intel?
well go Intel if you can justify the cost.
the same applies for quads.. theres lots of different quads on the market atm.. 45nm like the q9XXX series or the 65nm like the Q6600..
having a 2.6Ghz 45nm chip is like having a 3.00Ghz 65nm chip (the difference might not be exactly that, but the 45nms are more powerful by some margin!)
Again, if you can justify the cost go for a quad with good clock speed (a q6600 is a good buy if your overclocking, but wont beat an C2D E8400 in games)
My recomendation would be either an E8400 or E8600...
theyr currently the best dual core chips on the market.. and if you pair it with a P45 chipset you can overclock that badboy to 4.0Ghz with a half decent cooler... that will get you more performance in most games than an extra 2 cores.. (apart from crysis, but atm thats an exception)
If you want good power with future proof, go for quad because games of the future will support more cores and some will even demand it!
With all this in mind, shop around... I find scan have the best stock of processors but can be quite expensive when compared to eBuyer...
Best of luck buddy
