Much improved, thankfully, but Heavies of all classes now seem to be a bit of a problem. Feels like I have to be completely 180 degrees behind them or it only does a normal stab, which is pretty annoying. It's actually a harder target area than the other classes.
Basically it's got to be the spine, shoulder blades are a no-no, and sides are right out.

I've not had much chance to practice leaping stabs and stabbing from above/below since the patch, are they still possible?
I assume quickstabs (turning to stab someone in the side/back as they run past) are out now too, couldn't land one all evening.

The other thing is it now seems impossible to stab someone with their back against a wall. Before you could sneak up beside them and get a sidestab in. Good news for snipers and engies.

I heard they were possible, although its gotten alot more difficult to time and get right, almost to the point its not worth trying. Thats what I heard on the steam forum and as I don't play spy I probably have no right replying!

This one was intended mate, they were trying to stop facestabs.

Haven't played that much spy since but they've 'fixed' the backstab. It's much faster now, has a punchier feel to it, but still seems a bit random, especially on heavies/soldiers. Didn't have much luck with leaping stabs or quick/side stabs. Only played 15 mins on spy but it'll take some re-learning.

Wait, another change? Just how much have Valve broken with this update?

They "fixed" backstab,on the positive basically theres no more annoying "hand going up" animation that interupted your timing, and the strike is pretty much instant.

On the negative the hit area is much smaller now and you have to be a lot closer to the target for the stab to count. This has stopped facestabs, but has gone too far and now once again stabs that you assume should land don't.

Just a case of relearning the mechanism I suppose, but i'm annoyed as I was starting to get used to the old one.

I've been thinking, it might be that the strike now counts from the position you are in when you start the animation, rather than when it finishes. Would explain some of the behavior i've been seeing.

Yeah flick/quick stabs are out now, which is very annoying and I have heard that stair (jumping from above) stabs are out too. Bit gutting really because I have spent endless hours practicing those and now they are obsolete, ah well at least it is quicker to stab people now i suppose.

I can see people reacting to the changes but I think it may be premature. Gameplay tonight was superb and this might say something...

I do think the baseball impairing Ubers is a problem. The game dynamic is so dependant on invinciiblity that this may be a balance/fix too far.

From my point of view, the stab fixes sound good. I have always felt that the ability to invisibly walk up to and face or side stab an Engie who has a good defensive position (ie. back to wall or on top of dispensor) was a strength too far. But I'm not a spy. It can't be all bad for spies - Lewis dominated me in the wee small hours and that doesn't happen very often, I can assure you.

Problem kinda is that I [we] was [were] getting used to pressing the button a little before the enemy back, now I [we] pretty much have to alert them before killing them.

hopefully this will be a "men from boys" situation which will lead to less spies leaving only the talented ones like Rob
who I rarely get annoyed at when he kills me.. more along the lines of, how the hell did he get there to do that?
and Im left in total awe of his skills

(hes the only person I see stabbing scouts consistantly, maybe there are others that I havnt payed attention too, but Rob is spy god)

Rob is way too good, felt like he killed me about 20 times last night, was starting to get annoyed, all those annoying scouts to swat and I keep getting backstapped.
