Now I wanna know what weapons people tend to use as pyro. I for one can't see any reason to take any other weapons but the ones i take... them being the standard flamethrower, Shotgun and Axtinguisher...

I don't see why anyone would use the backburner ever, but i do think the flaregun may be good if i could actually use it

Ideas?

Same loadout as you, occaisionally giving the flaregun a go then going back to the shotgun when I realise I need to kill people, not just set them on fire.

I got the backburner the day it was nerfed, so much for not achievement farming.  Taking people almost instantly from the rear is a dubious benefit compared with being able to blow them off ledges and mess with Uberchargers.

Flamethrower, Flaregun, Axtinguisher. I'm fairly newbish at pyro but that seems to work quite well for me (except againsnt other pyros). Plus, Flaregun kills are the ultimate humiliation!

edit - I have used the BB before, but its more situational. The airblast is a hell of a lot more useful then crits from behind

I don't play pyro often, but when I do I usually use the Flamethrower and the shotty. Flaregun IMHO has restricted use (useful e.g. setting people on fire defending C on gravel pit, especially when they don't have a medic with them).
I sometimes use the BB when I want to wreak havok on groups (like attacking blue from behind on dustbowl 3rd stage 2nd point) where a mediocre pyro like me can do more damage in the few seconds before I die.

And I don't care about melee. I'm old, and having to deal with primary and secondary weapon is already confusing enough for me. There's no room in that small brain of mine for a third weapon

BBQ maneuver go! Burn, Blast, Qut. Yes, qut.
Use the Flare Gun or Flamethrower to burn someone, Compression Blast them into the air, then Axtinguish them as they come down.

So loadout should be Flamethrower, Flare Gun and Axtinguisher, but change it up depending on the enemy team every now and then. This loudout is weak against other Pyros and Scouts...

I play pyro a fair bit and my loadout is the same as yours too.

But I do swap to the backburner if I'm ambushing in defence rather than covering a point (Dustbowl cp4 defence in particular), I find the crits from behind useful for nailing medics quickly before they can use ubers.

I like the flaregun, but only tend to use it if the team is having particular issues with snipers, or for the same purpose on pl maps, when escorting a heavy (they can take out mid-long range targets, I use flare gun to make other classes retreat to heal coz I set them on fire!).

I only use the standard axe on melee only stalemates.

To be fair, i don't really need an excuse to axtinguish, this was really to see why some people (especially pro pyros i've seen vids of) use the flare gun... i just don't get it

I find that most people you hit with a flare will run off to find a medpack, leaving them open for an intercept/axe to the face. Even if you can't catch them and finish them off, they're not where they were, letting you slip through the gap and cause some havok. It's a total griefing thing for me really.

But flip on the flip side of snaity. The standard flamer for the air blast (I'm still waiting for that crit rocket return achivment thing ), the standard shot gun, although I am thinking of give the flare gun a go untill I get the litght em up achivment thingy. As for the axe, I went for the barbed wire one. Never been any good at the close combat thing. Was just as bad on th knif rounds in CS:S. Hay ho

I use what everyone else seems to use (Normal flame, shotty and axtinguisher). The only time i would use the flaregun is if i wanted to piss off some snipers on 2fort.

I use the same as you Millhawk, for the sole reason... of AXE GLORY!!!! (I don't seem to get it as often as you do, but when it happens it's so damn satisfying )

But seriously, it's really hard to attack a cap that's being covered by a sentry and a good back-blast pyro. Will be interesting when scout gets a useful anti uber measure as well as pyro, will make for interesting tactics...
