So lately there has been a big lack of the fundemental teamwork princepals that we used to use regularly on the server
The biggest thing for the team would be defending SGs
If you dont defend it the poor engie is useless and it will go down a lot!
but if you have covering fire, it will be stupidly effective even in open areas.
thats why as teatime said why do teams start with 4 engies then go down to 1? beacuse theyre sick of rebuilding cuz the team wont help, and then complain about having no sentries! thats twisted!
A big thing for me is people drawing fire to snipers on their team!
Example = 2nd cap 1st stage dustbowl, the ledge that snipers use from the tunnel.
Standing on the ledge while a sniper is trying to shoot draws spam from demos and sollys! it makes it impossible to shoot so please be careful when deciding to spam from that spot or not please!
Protect your medics!
I dont play medic a lot, mainly because Im not protected very well (so i die a lot, giving little to no assistance)
I see too many medics getting killed by spies/pyros when they could have been saved with some teamwork
Remember, 1 medic with 50% uber is worth more than any 1 other player to the team (in general)
SPY CHECK DAMMIT!
If your a pyro, use your strengths against them! run around firing flames even if no1 has said spy. you can carry on all day if you got enough ammo pickups!

All of this is hard to do on a pub because there are always people who don't come here every day.
About 4 -> 1 engineers, well that is because it was steel and nobody on our server ever plays that because our admins hate it

Spies standing by sentries was never that good for the sentries.
And I do defend them when I am a medic (or try to get people to use the dispensers engineers always put right by them)

Chaos is bang on really. I think a few people got blamed tonight for things that weren't really their fault, and it felt like any team I played on got hammered too! One of those nights I guess.
One thing - if you need assistance on something, pick someone who's likely to help (I usually will unless I'm a medic at high uber) and ask them directly. People tend to respond better to direct requests rather than 'I need someone to XXX'.

In general I find that teamwork here has a much higher standard as most of the other pubs I occasionally play on. I'm probably preaching to the choir here, but if you kindly ask people to support you they usually do. At least I try to, e.g. switch to Medic when people demand one. You should, too.

I switched to medic tonight. More than once. I'm very bad at it and for that i apologise. I'm tryng to learn.
Steel was interesting
was hard to medic as i kept getting lost.
Tonight was just one of those nights. is it a monday thing??? I feel we do better most of the time, but in public play it tends to get a bit flappy even with the best of intentions.

Yeah, I was definatly off colour tonight, I think I've developed a phobia of Natascha as a scout, hence all the medic/engie play!! Steel needs a bit more of a run out I think, should be good once everyone knows what they're supposed to be doing!
I also agree with Jordan and his gripes, but I also agree with r007 in that the teamplay here is 100 times better then other pubs. I think if we just call tonight a write-off and continue as though it never happened (other then the Steel tricks and tips) everyone should be happy!!

Some very good points there, Chaos.
I guess a few of my previous rants have shown that I occasionally feel quite similar.
Yes, the teamwork in general is far better than on many other pubs. But sadly that makes it far more frustrating when a game doesn't work at all because it's rather a bunch-of-players(TM) than a team, since you know that the experience and skill is there.
Interesting that you mentioned sentries, Chaos, because lately I'm playing Engy a bit more often. And it happened quite a few times that I was trying to set up my building just to have a single demo or pyro coming along and destroy everything (including little me) in seconds. Which, BTW, depending on the map can be a huge set back even to an amount that it might not be worth to try a second time.
Also a number of time when I witnessed being steamrolled by the other team it was clearly not because teams were unbalanced skillwise, but because one team was working together while the other was not (And we had quite a few of those lately, haven't we?)
One thing which IMHO could use a lot more improvement is communication (granted, I ranted about that just recently). Spies and Übers are fine, but that's not enough. Things like sentry positions or pipetraps need broadcasting, also there is a often general lack in coordination especially when it comes to übers. It's not really productive to decide to über and attack the point without announcing it (preferably beforehand) so the rest of the team can move into position.
Believe me or not: I don't really care if I win or lose, as long as each team is giving it's best (which IMO is no contradiction to having fun). May the better team win and that's fine!
But personally I find it very frustrating to piss away half an hour on a game with a team which appears not to care that it's bound to lose by playing as a bunch-of-players(TM).
And while we're at that: Kudos to people like Hex who fill niches to help the team even when it's a class they're not that good at (and consequently may die a lot). IMHO that's one of the core sensibilities of this game.

Yes - well done Hex. I did notice medic.
I tried spy and medic, but died so much and failed so much that I switched back after a round.
As for helping engineers - then we really have two classes that can help:
1) Pyro (with airblast) - deflect ubers by blasting into the air, remove stickies
2) Heavy - good all round defense especially with Natascha to slow things down
Plus, we did have some GOOD games on Badwater I felt - close defending even though we lost. CTF Well also was good - really fierce fighting around the middle area. It seems that one or two bad maps can erase several good ones earlier on! Pity - lets not forget the fun times either!
