Don't know what maps you played before. I came in on ...

SnakeTemple
Not a bad map, but for the most part it leaves me unimpressed.
It's more like a fun map as interim between more intense gameplay (or on a gamenight devoted to simply goof around), but that's pretty much it.

Oilrig
Confusing would be an understatement. For the game yesterday the first two caps were pretty much inexistant and most of the game revolved around the last point. I'm sure with better knowledge of the map this would play differentely.
Problem is that it's not a fun map, yet I'm not sure it works as a "serious" map. Might still be worth revisiting.

BTW: Yesterday's game had a few surreal moments running through the corridors towards a T-junction to see one of our classes running across, usually chased by an enemy pyro  Cheesy

Freight (thx Junta)
It's okay, but it's the kind of map I don't encounter shivering with anticipation.

Swift
IMHO this might be a promising map. Yes, it's quite large (though I still don't think it's much bigger than Badwater) and you need more people than we had yesterday, but with a full server this could be much fun.
Yes, it's openness will be nice for snipers, but the multiple passages will be heaven for spies, too.
I would love to play that one again with 20+ people.

Freight was OK for me - not stunning but bearable.

Treehut (prior to Teatime's arrival) was fun, but for a short while.

Oilrig is just not fun at all, and Snaketemple became a grind very quickly tbh.

Swift was OK - but I get the feeling that it is very much bigger than even badwater. Badwater is probably the same size but at least it has more height.

From prior experience, I really like Freight, Oilrig is a bit of a pain in the ass, but gets better once you figure out your way around, I pretty much agree with Tea on Snaketemple, good for a laugh, gets old quickly. Haven't played Swift or Treehut yet.

Treehut was good fun, for a limited ammount of time only.

Oilrig is awful for the attackers.

Freight is ok, but would only choose to play it rarely.

Snaketemple is good. But has limited playability.

I'd hoped to get more from last nights session and would like to have another session and look at some more maps tbh.

For a fair CP map, freight is fun. Trains mix it up in a much more fun way, and the layout is pretty nice and compact (not endless running like granary and well).

Swift was okay, I guess, but yeah, is rather too open for my liking - perhaps needs more cover.

Snaketemple is meh, fun for a while but I'd not be able to play it constantly. Oilrig has always been strange whenver I've played it, but it is possible to do - but with the layout, SG's and defensive positions are so much more odd.

Isn't the point mostly that we played a few custom maps last night. Of course we whinged moaned fucked around and generally blamed the map design but - hey, we're a bunch of whingers. I'm sorry people but I cannot do with the moaning. You learn to appreciate life as you get older and see the merit in things. Anyway, we proved an important point - we can get a server loaded up on custom maps. So stick one on server 1. Any. Don't give a shit. Swift seems to have the vote. Bung it on and let's see if it works out. If it does let's coax in a new map every month.

Let's be right: there's nothing wrong with Dustbowl, Gravelpit (my personal hate), Goldrush, etc. We're just bored shitless.

CP_Steel for server 1! Smiley that's actually a vastly different map to normal ones, which is why I enjoy it (as you said, it doesn't bore me, it's different, a change, and an inventive one at that).

At the risk of being accused of moaning, Steel is a server killer...I'd second Freight, haven't played Swift.

It's down to our illustrious leaders but if we do promote a map, it should be one of those from yesterday on the basis we know our regs - or some of them at least - have it.

I thought Swift was excellent, and treehut was fun but not particularly substantial (one for the late night sessions with only a few people). The others were mediocre at best, although I can see Freight being a lot of fun with a bit more practice.

*Cough*
I was under the impression that GreatHeights was very popular the few times we played it before.
If the plan is to expand server1 with a custom map I would suggest to use that one.
Steel would be okay too (not my most favourite map, but every now and then it's a nice change of pace).
Swift, as much as I like it, might first prove itself under more common conditions.

Tea, we tried Great Heights for several weeks and it just emptied the server. That's why it was demoted to server 2.

My view, and it is my personal view, is that we critically need new map content now to maintain interest in the game. I, for one, cannot understand why Valve don't embrace a new map (best of the customs, whatever) on a regular basis and add it to the stock lists. But they don't. And when they do their choice is dodgy (Fastlane anyone?).

But I also think the gaming demography on our server 1 has changed. We have a lot of regular players now. Commited regular players. And we have our very good friends from BFM. So we can, I surmise, encourage these regulars to adopt custom maps and expand our options. I would like to see us embrace one new map per month into the rotation.

Let's stop agonising about it I say. Stick it on and bin it if no one votes for it.
