1) Is there any way to change the font size of echo messages? With 1680x1050 I need some bloody binoculars to read my own status messages  Angry

2) Is there a good way to create ingame custom menus. Is the VGUI system which was introduced in TFC still in TF2 (Clumsy as it was, it had it's purposes), or is there a way to create menus similar to the spy/engy menus?

I browsed the tf2-gfc-file. I found the commandmenu file which contains the structure, but I can't see how it's called nor if a similar structure could be adapted to less specific purposes.

Don't believe you can have menus with scripts unless the game has built in commands to do this.... scripts just just send already defined commands to the game engine, just in a sequence that you want andbound to the key you want Smiley

I believe it would take a mod to do such a thing....

ps if anyone has a copy of my scripts (version2) could you up load them as rightly said link doesnt work but also I've lost them on my machine.....

You are probably right. It appears to be relatively easy to create menus in all shapes and sizes in a mod.
Actually I was kinda hoping there were still remnants of the old VGUI-system (or perhaps a predecessor which could be called in a similar way).

Egg, any idea on the font size of the echo messages? I found what I believe to be the relevant entry in the ClientScheme.res, but manipulating the file did nothing so far.

As for your scripts: I have your v2. I've uploaded them here, so somebody here might reupload them to the site.

I had a script in CSS which added menus to the main menu, added a load of stuff to the "keyboard" menu (making it easy to rebind aliases).

There are a lot of things in the "GUI" section of FPSB which add admin menus and stuff to your main menu.


Thinking about it, if admin mods add menus, surely you can script one (providing it's clientside).

Yes, I found that yesterday.
Not quite sure how suitable that would be, though.
Creating fixed panels would probably be easy enough, but you couldn't make them customizable clientside (like making your own selection-menus).
One thing which might be doable (speaking as a layman here) would be a replacement for the echo-stats, so that certain events would create messages on the screen more prominently.

But of course I have no clue about all that stuff in the first place :-(

I guess it depends on what you want to be able to do though...it seems like it would be fairly easy to add to the in-game main menu (i.e. when you press escape)
