As I wore out WASD on the lappy, I had to get one of these. Good software, nice keys, looks sexy, the only problem is the rubber palm rest gets very, erm, sweaty. The space bar issue doesn't really affect me either, as I use mwheelup for jumping in FPS games. Probably going to keep this for gaming and just use some keyboard I can steal from work for everything else.

Love it, I had this before, and it was just dogshit, uncomfortable hand positions, the gamestick thing got in the way and the software was difficult to use and then one day randomly stoped working. So I got the belkin one (for the backlight) and its amazing; didn't take any getting used to at all and the hand position lets me get at all the buttons (except the mousewheel and space, but I don't use either). Haven't really played around with the macro things on it, but the software is so user friendly it probably wouldn't be that difficult. The best thing about it though, is that little button on the top that is in the perfect position for "voice chat".

I'm deffinatly on the dredge today.

At long last (considering how many months ago it was my birthday) I have finaly go around to ordering a Ideazon Merc Stealth keyboad. In a couple of days the Dell keyboard that I liberated from the old wearhouse befor it was closed down all those years ago will be retired. It's seen some good use, but I'm begining to notice that I'm mis-keying more frequently. So it had to go. Be interesting to see how I get on with the new keyboard. I'm a bit stuck in my ways, so this could take a while to get used to.

But I am way to overly geekily excited about back lit keys Smiley

Imagin what I'll be like when I [in my dream world] get the keyboard with the LCD mini screens to each key Cheesy

... I use mwheelup for jumping in FPS games ...

WHAT??? I mean I played with some weird layout for years (M2 for running forward, NUM_0 for jump, ARROW UP for Duck, END for reload and so on) but had to switch, because my current keyboard has the arrow buttons integrated in the Numblock, which messes everything up. But jumpin with mouse wheel? And you play scout? I can't imagine how that one works.

Oh yeah, to get back on topic, I currently use this: http://static.mmoabc.com/www/web/2007/11/21/1195629674764.jpg

Initially I was pretty happy with that extra keys on the left, but it also has its problems. First: it's bigger that the normal keyboards, even though it's arrow keys are combined with the numblock. And here we come to the main problem. It's a PAIN IN THE ASS having the arrow keys and the system keys being combined with the numblock. It's much like a notebook keyboard really, but I just can't cope. Having to switch the NUM key on an off constantly is the biggest flaw in this design.

That said, I actually stopped using the gaming keys on the left for some reason. They are really comfortable and the layout is EXACTLY the same as if you would put your hand at WASD, but for example the com-keys in TF2 are missing and have to be placed elsewhere which makes it a little awkward. WoW is great with those, though, very comfortable. Depends on the game, I guess. What I love about it, it has really quiet and soft keys so typing with it is pretty awesome. I wouldn't buy this thing again, though.

I seriously can't remember why I started doing it! I've never liked spacebar to jump tbh, its a bit too unresponsive and clunky! I'm odd, but you all know this.

So using right click to jump? I do find it slightly fasinating, in an inversly pervers kind of way, as to what people use in way of key assignment. I think mine is just a slow evolution of what is used for Quake. No secondary fire lark, so left mouse for fire, right for jump. The joys of secondary fire, I'll have the middle mouse for that one. Although there are times when foing for the middle mouse does inadvertantly move the wheel and you end up changing weapons at the most inapropriate of times Smiley When reloading was called for I eventually went for a quick thumb strike to the number zero on the number pad. Eventually a 5 button mouse got used for that one.

Each to their own Smiley

Well jumping on M2 I also used back in the days of strafe jumping, but mousewheel really strikes me as somewhat odd. I mean it's a completely different action, not pushing but moving it up, is that really as exact as pushing a button?

EDIT: I also had secondary fire on middle mouse when I used M2 for running forward, but I find it can be really bad if you are using M2 for something you do frequently (like jump or run) because then you can't just use secondary fire at the same time as your primary - was a problem with UT for example, where you can change the way the rockets are grouped with secondary, while you are charging up the rocket shot with holding primary button. Also having to zoom in and out frequently was a pain in the ass.

It took a while to get there but I like to think I can be just a precise now as someone using a button. Every now and then I do slip and bust a doublejump instead of a single jump or change weapon instead of rocketjumping but it happens so rarely now it's not really something I worry about.

edit - Sorry for the thread hijack!

Eh? Custom, layouts? But... why?

What's wrong with WASD, R reload, SPACE for jump, 123 for weapon switch, CTRL for crouch and M1 for fire?

Meh, I suppose playing GunZ for so long made me used to the normal layout. (GunZ required crazy keyboard skillz, to perform a simple sword move you had to jump, double tap a direction, attack and then block all after the other at the slightest possible delay. It was just easier to use the left cluster of keys to do these moves for me and most other people.)
