The thing with spy is that it is the only class which pretty much requires thought to be able to play (that doesn't mean that you can't play intelligently with other classes, just spy requires it) and learning to play spy as a result has a pretty mean learning curve!

Just stick at it, just remember: spy is more about deception and mind-fucking your opponent than trying to get points (trust me, you'll live much longer (and more points) if you only get one or 2 kills, the cloak into the background and come back when they stop hunting)

Put in another 3 and a quarter hours today, feels like i'm starting to make some progress. Still not anywhere near the kind of ratios I want, but I'm starting to stay alive a bit longer and get a few kill streaks (best is only 6 kills or so - 4 backstabs, a normal stab and a gunning down)

Just got to keep practising to get the backstab timing and distances down vs moving targets. Too far and you stab air, too close and it glitches out, seems to be a really fine line and you can almost guarantee that if that arm goes up it's not going to hit anything.
I think part of it is getting used to the fact that it only kills them if they are in a good position at the end of your swing animation, whereas i'm used to sniper and pyro where they die the moment you click, provided you are looking at them.
I'm going to try tomorrow with a higher sensitivity setting on my mouse to see if that helps at all.

Aye, I think some of the better spys (one of them may wanna confirm this, im not sure) tend to start the stab just before they're in the stab range, so it finishes as they enter backstabville. Time and time and again I've swung too early or too late, and all your hard work getting there goes to shit

Well done Zarf - I think those are good stats for a new spy!

Problem is that spies "take one for the team" - they're not really for stats whoring as they assist the team take down / cap and win. This often means dying unfortunately.

Just my personal view, and I don't think there are many spies with very high KPD.

I also note that we've not seen as many pyros on some maps as usual (badwater for example), and an overflow of pyro on separate maps (dustbowl or gravelpit).

I agree with Gas that we've had an influx of good spies - I don't mind this. In the long run I'll be a better heavy for it for sure (Snowman knows what I mean )

I certainly think I'm a better sniper because of it... spies dont get me as often as others...

Just done a couple of hours on a 24/7 badwater public server, scored pretty well. Moving my sensitivity up helps tremendously and i'm getting the hang of those jammy sidestabs.
I'm still crap at taking down lvl 3 sentries when they have an Engie on though. Even when i manage it i usually die in the proccess from the rockets.

Lure them in with a sap then stand a little away and yell spy or something then when they turn their back on you *stab*

Try uncloaking in front of them, luring them out, then run round a corner, cloak, and appear behind him, knife ready.

You did pretty well last night, from what I remember.
