but it is also slower and I'm mainly gaming with this, the TN panels seem to be the standard choice for gamer displays and it's also cheaper
Quote
Unless your doing graphic work a pMva screen is a waste of money.

The plot thickens however, on the large 24" panels, P-MVA is listed at 6ms vs 5ms standard for the TN panels which is pretty negligible ..... but what they don't tell you about is input lag, this is usally much higher on the TN panels becasue they use an "overdrive" feature to get such low pixel response times (fixes ghosting), the cost is that they spend an extra 16-20ms buffering frames in image processing circuitry before displaying.

Now overdrive is used on certain *VA panel monitors too, but not on the Yuraku. moral of the story is to google the monitor and "input lag" and read through reviews before buying.

I'd also say that the viewing angles start to become important on 24" monitors. On a TN panel 24" is big enough that you'll notice color distortion at the edge of the screen even when you're looking straight on at it.

Yes Guilt, but it's 16:9, I'm going for 16:10 (even though it seems 16:10 will pretty much dissapear by the Q1 2010).

PRO:
- +120 px in height
- can display FULL HD without resizing (with 60px black bar top and bottom, obv, but who cares, it's the same size a 16:9 display would show)
- 16:9 support in games is a bit weird sometimes, 16:10 has been established in the last couple of years (with 1680x1050 being the standard resolution, admittedly)
- even when 16:9 will be the norm, I can still use it

CONTRA:
- can't think of any, really.

EDIT: Good points, Zarf, I'm currently reading the review of the display you suggested, but it's not very favorable and as I said, it's hardly available in germany and costs from 260€ upwards. So not really a viable option for me right now. Tending to check the P-MVA display now, didn't make any filtering to that till now.

What I have, before you say "it's too big!", just look at the price.

I have had this a few weeks, no regrets.

Uhm.. this is interesting. It has no DVI, though? Are you using D-Sub or HDMI?

This is the monitor I recently brought. Admittedly I have a 150CM table to put it on surrounded by 2 22" ones...

If you can stomach it, for the price (~£260) I could find nothing better or bigger. HDMI input (can get converters from DVI, same standard), can do monitor scaling (to keep square resolution inputs square) and can do full 1980 wide HD (being 16:10, some black bars on top and bottom).

Doesn't do absolutely great colours (par the course for cheap monitors, but by far better then my old monitors which are a bit old now) and can buzz a little with certain bands of colour are on screen (might as well be honest, it's rare but still happens), but great overall for me and, both my wallet and gameplaying. I'm actually surprised, I didn't expect it to have the scaling option when I got it too, heh.

TBH if I had the money I'd go for a full 30" dell monstrosity, but those cost £1200...ouch!

In any case, too big for most people's tastes, but 1920x1200 is probably the best resolution to get for games and media watching (due to full-screen 1080p capability) - simply because 16:9 1920x1080 is basically TV-only, give or take, and so hefts up the price or the size (so it'd be huge, but take up all of my 150CM table and be unwatchable!), and it appears fewer monitors are in 16:9 then 16:10. Some good suggestions so far for lower sized ones Smiley

Edit this is the same one terror posted. Whatever! I got mine from Dabs! (play wasn't in stock I think at the time).

Yeah that looked intresting final and I found one that appears to be a refresh of that model, but it really is too expensive and I don't think I need them THAT big. I was in out local electronics market today and it looks like 24'' is just right - 26'' would be pretty much the maximum and I don't want to spend that much money right now, this purchase is unplanned after all.

Anyway, I looked at a couple of displays there and one of them caught my eye (there were some EIZOs around for comparing and it looked quite good in comparison, despite costing about 25% of what they cost. Of course being your typical run of the mill electronics market, everything is about 50€ too expensive. So, I looked on the internet and I will get this one for the first purchase: http://www.idealo.de/preisvergleich/OffersOfProduct/1346350_-w2452tx-lg-electronics.html

Pretty much just meets my minimum requirements, but is also much more cheapter than expected. I saw it in the shop and it looked just fine, so I'll at least test it, if it sucks I can still send it back. Thanks for the input so far!

Really? must have gotten one with a samsung panel, it's a bit of a lottery.
My one uses the same panel (AU Optronics M240UW01-V3) as the Benq FP241w, which launched at almost £600.

Yep they mentioned it on the forums, the quality of panels varies greatly, but that's okay now - just wating for that thing I ordered to arrive. Everything is better than a half red screen, so I guess I'll be satisfied with the cheapo alternative (the display that broke was also ultra cheapo, so it will be an improvement on my scale of low low low expectations).

This just came up on the ebuyer newsletter and I'm sorely tempted to buy it. Anyone had bad experience with this monitor or with Samsung monitors? It has a lot of 5 star ratings with it.
