lol.. I had a cheaper dell (which another WDG now owns)
It was awsome for games.. 22" of awsome IMO!
I upgraded for 26" of awsome (and twenty thousand:one contrast ratio!!!)
but I still kinda prefere the dell screen..
Theres nothing wrong with cheep screens most of the time... youll only really notice it in the darkest of dark environments.. as long as its got a great backlight you should be happy!

Ill report back once I have gamed on the new one with what I think..

But Im not as fussy about my monitor as I am the rest of my PC
As long as its anti aliased and nice n big im happy

I'm the proud owner of Chao's old one- it still blows me away sometimes. Seeing my first view of the wastes in Fallout 3 on it was the first time computer graphics actually made my jaw drop.

Do you see what I mean about getting a proper *VA panel on big screens now Chaos....
TN's are the bottom of the pile. Fastest response, but shit viewing angles and colour reproduction. *VA's are the minimum the people who have to work with photos etc consider, with IPS panels at the top, but they are very pricey, check out the Hazro range for some nice ones.

Like the Industrious Mr T I also don't care about speakers/webcams cetera. But I do want an overall, nice quality screen, so no TN, but I can't work out the +/- of pva vs ips, if I can work it out, I'll post here.

EDIT: According to sources, that dell has a bit tooo much lag, so now looking at this:

The NEC looks quite good (though expensive)
You do need to enable an option on the on screen display though to get the best response times.

NEC have introduced something we haven't seen from a monitor before, and something which is sure to please those concerned with input lag when playing games. The 24WMGX3 offers a 'Through Mode' option which is available in the OSD menu. The official manual states that "this mode shortens the delay time of the picture signals within the monitor", and that you should "use this mode when you are concerned about the synchronization between he picture and audio". This option limits the picture processing function of the monitor, which should in theory reduce the input lag. In enabling this function, you do lose some options such as colour control and PiP, and it may sometimes affect smoothness and colour tones according to the manual.

Testing the screen again in our input lag tests showed an improvement from an average of 15.6ms to 8.8ms. The input lag was much more commonly around 10ms with Through Mode enabled, whereas without it was more commonly 20ms behind the CRT. The maximum input lag figure measured was also improved from 30ms to 20ms. This is a welcomed feature I think, especially when you're looking for a good gaming screen.

I have the model before this the 2407 (still 24") and its absolutely brilliant definately go the for the Dell

I bought this (Dang, it's the german Hyundai site, but I couldn't find it in the sites mentioned in this thread)

Have it since yesterday and so far I'm quite happy with it. I still have to fiddle with the settings a bit more finding the best brightness/contrast settings and I have to find out how to adjust colors.
I had no problems playing on it yesterday, but I will have to test that on more demanding games.
From what I've read it has the same panel as the Dell 2408, but I'm not sure if that information is accurate.
I paid ~ €450,-, so it would be in your price range.
The HP2475 appears to be a good monitor as well, read a lot of good stuff about it and I considered that one as well.
There's an excellent german site doing reviews on monitors: Prad. You may not be able to read it, but you can get some good informations from the overviews. I think it's basically between the NEC and the HP, the input lag on the dell has apparently doubled since your monitor, Egg. I'm leaning towards the HP at the moment because it's IPS and can be vertically aligned, which appeals to me.

Bought the HP. It is good. No problems. finally thrown out the two 21 inch CRTs I'd been running. The environment now loves me.
