Does anyone know much about these?
I was thinking of getting 2 extra monitors... one for each side!
Do i need to match the resolutions to extend my gaming viewing area?
The native resolution of my current monitor is 1920*1200... and i was thinking of 2 22" 1650*1080

you all know my pc can handle it... so thats not the problem... just want a little more info before i shell out the dough

any ideas?

You don't need matching resolutions. I know that XP and Vista are quite happy with dual monitors, never tried (or even seen) 3 or more.

You can use different resolutions for each monitor in normal use but it would probably make it difficult to play a game across three when one is at a different resolution. My mate has four 22 inchs together but he's just a showoff

Do you have enough graphics cards in to run 3?  (Just checking )

this is what im after
but not really for driving games... more tf2 ect so i get more fun out of it... i was thinking of getting 2 more monitors withthe same resolution if its not doable with different resolutions

and yes egg.. i have 2 4870s in crossfire.. it can take up to 4 monitors

Wouldn't you end up with a couple of blind spots? I can't imagine TF2 working too well on that much screen (My 28" pretty much fills my vision). Unless you want to play while you're in bed or summat.

nah.. i was thinking along the lines of seeing whos next to me (spy/pyro checking would be a life saver IMO)

but mainly just want to get more enjoyment out of my favourite possetion.. my PC

Im all about having a laugh and some fun... and i rekon 3 monitors will enhance my enjoyment

You won't get any more FoV though, so I can't see how it would help.

I understand the multiple monitors (I want to dual screen, but I need another DVI-VGA adapter). But not spreading TF2 over 3 of them, lol.


Playing a game on one monitor (primary) with Interner/iTunes (or whatever) on the other is  always good.

I'm the multi monitor king, Chaos. Been doing it for years. Observations:-
1) I like it because when I'm working it allows practical multi-app multi-tasking; in my opinion, you need 2 monitors to embrace paperless working (one to view the doc on, one to respond to it on)
2) SLi didn't support it (fucking hate SLi so not a problem for me 'cos I won't ever got there again; SLI now apparently works with multiple monitors; no idea if it works properly with Crossfire
3) SLI didn't really know what was plugged into what resulting in incredible frustration when swapping in and out of SLI mode
4) Don't play games on multiple screens. Just don't. Supreme Commander had novelty appeal but beyond that...

In summary, pointless unless like me you are a serious working multitasker

Totally agree with Gasman. I've been on and off multiscreen for some time now (yay two extra PCI graphics cards in ye olden days), and it's the shizzle for multitasking.

Most games don't properly support a multiscreen environment (i.e. will only play on one screen or don't support a large enough FoV), so it's probably not worth it.

Ok, theres only a limited number of games that support multi-monitors properly.
What you probably should do if you plan to stretch the screen over three monitors is get one of these : http://www.matrox.com/graphics/en/products/gxm/th2go/

I'd also advise you get two more 24" screens, so that things line up properly. Not a major issue for multitasking, but it'd be nice for gaming.

edit : Actually just checked the specs, and the highest res it supports is 5040 x 1050 (3 x 1680 x 1050 screens)

If/when I get a new PC, I think I'll shell out something to get another monitor as a primary (I have 2x1680 right now). It seems that the box thing ( http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/wiki/index.php/Surround_Gaming ) actually is a way to get those extra monitors all off one port.

The thing with it, it only goes up to 1050 height. This won't be an issue for a new, big monitor which has hardware scaling, it'll just have some black bars if you get a 16:9 screen that'll need to be compensated for. Although, I wonder if it'll affect the *desktop* too, which would be an issue! It does affect the desktop too, if you check the online compatibility thing.

Tell us how it goes! I at least am interested. By the time I check it next, maybe they'll have more resolutions too:

that triple head thing looks like a goer... if it supported 3x 1920x1200 id go for it... but it doesnt... so ill just have to wait for it i guess

I presume that's the Matrox solution? I 've looked at that with interest before.

Just to sign this one off, I think I will be upgradingto a 28 inch main and moving the 24 inch to secondary status. If that ain't enought square footage, I'll have to take the red pill and chase the rabbit.
