Howdeh

I'm going to be bagging myself a new case for Christmas. The one I have now is getting a bit rough round the edges.

I've been having a nose round ebuyer & other sites and have come across a few decent ones for a decent price! The trouble is, the last time I got a new case (I won it at a LAN party actually) - the motherboard didn't align properly with the back panels or the standoff holes, and in the end sold it for a handsome £70.

Determined not to make the same mistake again, I've been checking the gallery pics on each model and can't seem to find one that fits. A lot of them say they're compatible with ATX motherboards but I don't really know if mine is an ATX motherboard.

The motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-8I945GMF. To be honest, I don't really know what I'm looking for or whether my motherboard is compatible with any of these cases.

Can someone please give me a gentle shove in the right direction?

According to Gigabyte's own WEB site, that motherboard is a "Micro ATX" with the dimentions of 24.4cm x 24.4cm.

So taking a look at eBuyer, they do have a selection of micro ATX form factor case.

According to wikipedia, MicroATX mobo's can be used in full-size ATX cases, so at least I won't be too restricted.

You can have my old case - Tsunami Dream (OK condition - still with screws and mounts). No PSU. Aluminium build.

If you like it then its yours for cost of postage (I have no Idea how to pack it to send to you though :s).

you can pretty much buy any case for a micro ATX mobo.

I highly recomend Antec cases, the P180 (and its update the P182) are particulaly fantastic and can keep even a beasty PC cool though are probably slightly over the top. Im building a PC for my dad over Xmas and im putting it in an Antec 300 which is affordable, has adequate cooling and is fairly unobtrusive. It also has speed controllers for all the fans mounted onto the back of the case which is a nice touch.

At the end of the day though pick something you like the look of as im guessing (as ure running a micro ATX board) its not the most power hungy rig so a simple case with a basic push pull fan arrangement should do.

nzxr had a bit of a bad rep last year but with this and the kaos they made up for it!
Id recomend this one (I have one for my lan party rig)
its awsome... compact enough to fit into a backpack... looks cool enough to sit on your desk.. enough room inside to fit 2 graphics cards. 4 hard drives ect 2 dvd drives blah blah blah... airflow is good... if you spring for the extra fans on the other side (which I would)...
tis a bit expensive but build quality is awsome so works out in the end

oh and material is right... for your mobo, you can buy any case you like... but smaller is better for it imo

I'll second the shout for the Antec P182. I have this case and can vouch for it's awesome cooling capability. It would be over-kill though unless you a) intend to use it as a absis for a meater/hotter running/overclocked rig or b) wish to have a very quiet PC.

I've got a gigabyte microatx board, fits well inside my Silverstone SG-03 case.
The SG-03 is fully aluminium, and micro-atx sized, but still enough room for a full sized graphics card, two hard disks, two 120mm fans and your cd drive. I'm very happy with mine since its still small and light enough to move about cradled under one arm.

I'll give twig a few days to get in touch with me, otherwise its yours Rippy - I have no use for it. The case has no box or protection so I may have to take you up on the offer of a box and packaging.

However to add an extra dollop of fun in to the pot. Fade pointed out to me today that the graphics card that I am currently cuverting is a biggy at 25cm long (trying not to brag about the size of my non-existant graphics card). So, while Hex was in the other room, Fade opened his covers and showed me the size of his graphics card, and let me tell you ... it's a biggy! It went from one side of his motherboard to the other! So I might have to enter into some angle grinder action, or get a big case We shall have to see

Well I have my new case! Spent 3 hours transferring everything from the old one to the new one, and it wasn't fun
