This is NOT aimed at anyone who plays on the WDG server and I have NEVER cheated at TF2 personally.

I played a match of TF2 recently where a sniper didn't seem to miss a single shot against my team, their score at the end of the round was very impressive and it got me wondering - Is it possible to cheat on a VAC secured server?
During some downtime at work and with the help of google I found this:

I'm surprised there's so few, anything that requires some form of client-side validation/input is really impossible to not hack (there are ways of greatly stopping abuse, but at some stage you have to trust what the client is sending you). Certainly auto aiming is one of the easier ones (funny watching the auto aim attempt to do rockets though, man, that sucked).

It's just a shame people want to do that in multiplayer. It's an odd psyche who wants to do it with no one else knowing.

Yeah same here, I get hassled all the time about my rage-quit bot.

VAC allegedly works on a time delayed basis, where you don't get banned immediately. It's definitely possible to cheat on VAC servers, but hopefully VAC sorts it out later. I've heard that the one you're referring to does get you banned eventually, though it's hard to be sure about that. Thankfully cheating seems pretty rare for the most part.

Yeah, it's easy to get passed VAC, but with every update people often get b& or have to re-code their hax.

I know, not because I have ever hacked, but because I used to be a member of a couple of hacking communities, so I would know how to spot them when I had my own CSS server.

Cheaters bore me doesn't matter if they can worm around VAC with their puny 'hack'* they aren't enjoying the games they cheat at! [not unlike buying gold in WoW]

*a real hacker would hack the server by giving himself 10000000 points and kill everybody on both teams and have it say it was a pyro taunt! Those people are not hackers they are cheaters don't give them the pleasure of being a 'hacker'.

The ethics of "cheating" in multiplayer games (we'll ignore singleplayer games), certainly when it comes down to effort of sorts (ie: a skill based game like CSS or TF2), is all a bit weird to be honest.

And on gold buying: who says those who buy gold in any quantity in fact just remove one of the most boring parts of the game? Then again, should real world money boost the power of a character in a virtual world, or should the world be "fair" (despite the fact time put into such a world equates basically your power, and some people have a lot more time to spare?).

I bought gold in WoW, was heavy into endgame raiding for Naxxramas when it first came out, When you're going through a few hundred golds worth of buffs and flasks a day (back in vanilla,anyway), you are talking 2-3 hours of grind every day, on top of 6-8 hours raiding, and more grinding for resistance gear .

Then there is the economics of the thing being that I could do a days work on minimum wage, and buy the same amount of gold that would take me a week to grind myself (and to me an hour stacking shelves was less monotonous than an hour grinding!).

Anyway, the problem was the system - I hear it's a lot more forgiving now for raiders.

I rest my case.. WoW is an utter pile of crap as far as I'm concerned. I play Tf2 to be entertained...lol.. not the equivalent of watching paint dry!

I can see this level of boredom driving people to cheat. Although cheating is bad, I can at least understand it (in the WoW example we're talking about).

Back in our CS1.5 days, on one LAN party, we had a cheating round, just to see what goes. It took all of the fun out of the game.
It was funny to look at for five minutes, but then we gut utterly bored, and went back to normal play.

I don't know what people that cheat get out of it... I really don't. (Though I can understand buying Gold for WoW... )

Going to have to agree with you I think.  The only reason I play the new content is because I think Blizzard is up there with Valve for creating the best looking games out there.  Unfortunately with WOW once you scratch under the surface the game play is just mind numbing.  Not even reached the lvl80 (the new cap) and I'm already sick of it again.
