Tenacious D is Jack Black's band, an extremely well known actor. Of questionable merit, but nevertheless well known.

Their eponymous album, released in 2001, reached Platinum status in the USA, and Gold in both the UK and Australia.

Both a second album and (admittedly terrible) accompanying film followed.

So, they are pretty well known.
