I am guilty of choosing sides. But only because I like to defend. I tend to hit the new map around about first and always pick red. I probably pick red if I join with teams even. Confession time: I have in the past picked a side to avoid a certain player. Long time ago, though. These days GASMAN FEARS NO ONE. Well, maybe Trigger when he's spying. Or scouting. Or sniping. mumble, mumble...

A lot of the time I pick a side (but the one with least players normally) so me and Snowman can play together, this is because we can hear each other's PCs, so if we're on opposing teams you can listen in to each others team chat, hear when someone goes engie, or spy etc.

You either auto assign and have to stay quiet or assign to the same team and actually communicate LOL

I usually auto-assign, but occasionally I like to pick a team too (e.g. when I'm more in the mood for attacking and know I won't stay for the 2nd round). But I'd like to say that I'm willing to switch teams when teams get uneven or when the game becomes lopsided (I remember very fondly a game of Badwater a few days ago when the attacking team pushed through all points effortlessly when one attacker decided to switch and defense then held the final point and finally won)
One problem: When teams are even but lopsided switching might correct the situation skillwise, but then you have uneven teams and balancing might sabotage that effort. Here scrambe is the only chance to correct that.
Besides all that there's also a psychological problem: For one one tends to hesistate to voice the opinion, the game might be lopsided (sometimes this is blatantly clear, but quite often I think that the skill-level is not that much different, but one team obviously works very well together while the other doesn't) Also voicing the suggestion a game might be lopsided will probably hold the stigma of "whining" for some people, so they might rather keep quiet when losing or will make comments along those lines when on the winning team. (This is nothing I remember having witnessed on the WDG-server)

That's a very good point TT. I was getting my arse handed me the other night and when I looked at the teams there was no obvious reason why we were so bad.

Terrible, I honestly hoped that wasn't what you were talking about and it was one of those "lost in translation" moments. But no. Therefore, on behalf of everyone else here, I present you with this fine shipment of fail. No need to thank me
