I think some people miss the point slightly... it's not really about who gets paid or who gets a Christmas bonus or fighting "the man" Sony or anything...
I bought it because of the music... I don't want some shitty jumped-up karaoke pop bollocks at number one EVERY YEAR. It gets on my nerves how stupid people actually are about music choice. Chug's link demonstrates this wonderfully - "they wouldn't get past X-Factor boot camp!" Yes, Joe, the be all and end all of music criticism, the mass favourite choosing by the one hit wonder factory. Ugh!
As far as I'm concerned, Killing in the Name is a really awesome song, and deserves a number 1 slot. It's appropriately protest-y to get on the nerves of the fence-sitters and hundreds of millions of times better than The Climb.
So in short, Joe McElderberries or whatever can go without his number one because I like to think that enough people care about not having crap at the top the entire time.
RATM for Christmas #1!
People are doing it for different reasons. I like you, have bought it for the music so x factor crap aint number one over xmas.
However some people are doing it in protest to the 'cowell machine', and as some money from both lots of sales will be hitting cowells pocket, it is a point to not to these people.
